Board of Directors

Elected by, and responsible to the membership, the goals of the Board of Directors are to conduct the affairs of the Society; establish, implement, and direct activities to ensure adherence to the goals and objectives of the Society; provide leadership to the membership; and to fulfill the corporate mandate, as identified in the Bylaws.

A term of office is three years. Board Members may serve only two consecutive terms.

Qualifications to serve on the Board include:

  • current Active member for at least two years,
  • Active member in good standing,
  • commitment to the goals of the Society,
  • Service or contributions to the Society,
  • contributions to the field of SCI medicine or research
  • willingness to attend bi-annual Board Meetings.

Members interested in serving on the Board are asked to submit a Letter of Interest and current curriculum vitae to the incumbent APS president (c/o American Paraplegia Society 75-20 Astoria Blvd. Jackson Heights, NY 11370) before the nomination deadline of February 1, each year. Current Board Member(s) whose term(s) of office expire must also submit a Letter of Interest if they wish to continue to serve on the Board.

The Letter of Interest must include all of the following information:

  • Name, Degree
  • Number of Years as an APS Member
  • Title
  • Employer
  • Address
  • City/State/Zip
  • Work telephone Number
  • Home Telephone Number
  • Signature, Date

In addition, all new candidates for the Board of Directors must provide the following information:

  • Describe professional activities in the field of SCI
  • A statement of interest on serving on the APS Board of Directors

The Nominating Committee will select a slate of nominees. A ballot containing the slate will be mailed to the membership by March 1. Newly elected Board Members will be notified by May 1 and will assume their positions at the close of the Annual Business Meeting in September.

Members may also submit Letters of Interest for a BOD position and for appointment to a Society Committee. Please consider this opportunity to take an active role in our Society.
