Announces revised guidelines for the annual award for best paper by a young investigator accepted by JSCM.
The Ernest Bors Award For Scientific Development
In honor of the lifelong commitment of Dr. Ernest Bors to spinal cord injury research and education, the American Paraplegia Society sponsors an award for original research papers in the field of spinal cord injury. Authors of papers accepted for publication in The Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine are eligible to apply for the award. Applicants must be students, residents or post-doctoral fellows in MD, PhD, residency or post-doctoral fellowship programs that lead to careers that involve spinal cord research. Eligible authors are responsible for designating their paper as a submission for the Bors Award. Following acceptance of the manuscript, the eligible author is required to file an application (signed by the applicant and the program director), a curriculum vitae, and a statement describing the applicant’s role in the research study and manuscript preparation, and verifying that the research was completed during training. Applications must be submitted by November 15.
Eligible papers are selected from papers accepted during the period from November 1 through October 31. Candidates must be first authors and must have completed their research during their training. Entries are judged by the following criteria: 1) originality, 2) relevance to SCI, 3) research methodology, 4) validity of conclusions, and 5) quality and clarity of presentation. One award is presented each year.
Winners are recognized at the APS Annual Conference. Recognition includes sponsorship to attend the conference, the opportunity to present the findings, a monetary award of $1,000 to further the winner’s education or research activities, and a commemorative plaque.
