Maud Adams: 2001 ASFLA Scandinavian of Year
The foundation proudly names Swedish-born actress and entrepreneur Maud Adams as its Scandinavian of Year 2001. Although she calls west-coast LA home, Ms. Adams was born on the northeast coast of Sweden in Lulea. She gained international recognition as a covergirl and came to New York by way of the Ford Modeling Agency. A 1970s supermodel, she appeared regularly on the covers of fashion magazines and in television commercials. She launched her acting career appearing opposite Beau Bridges in THE CHRISTIAN LICORICE STORE, followed by two Canadian features, MAHONEY'S ESTATE and THE GIRL IN BLUE. Acting brought her to Southern California.

In 1974 she became well known for playing opposite Roger Moore in the James Bond thriller THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, and co-starred with James Caan in ROLLERBALL. Many feature leads and television appearances followed including TATTOO with Bruce Dern, and the PBS drama PLAYING FOR TIME with Vanessa Redgrave. She was a series regular on the NBC drama CHICAGO STORY, playing an ER doctor. She then became the only actress to star twice in a Bond movie, playing the title role in OCTOPUSSY. Ms. Adams later returned to television in EMERALD POINT N.A.S., a CBS multicast drama. She has been featured in more than two dozen films and continues to make guest appearances in a variety of television projects.

Although an established actress, Ms. Adams doesn't rest on her laurels. In the 90s, she built a presence in Sweden as host of the live, nightly variety TV show CAFE LULEA. She had a recurring role in the drama series RADIOSKUGGA for Swedish public television, made her stage debut in in the long-running hit comedy THE SPANISH FLY at Stockholm's Intiman Theatre and played a recurring role in the daytime drama VITA LOGNER. Her current role is businesswoman for her women's clothing line "Maud Adams Wardrobe." Those who know Ms. Adams agree that her many athletic activities, like hiking and mountain biking, are crucial to the gear in her wardrobe.

Ms. Adams is a prominent member of the Scandinavian community. She and her husband The Honorable Charles Rubin are great supporters of the annual ASFLA Scandinavian Film Festival.
